Summer is in full swing and many of you are having to cope with the seasonal hot weather, and on the other side of the pond our UK supporters are basking in the cool weather! I am just enjoying a couple of weeks catching up with friends here in UK and even managed one day on the Isle of Wight where are Hospice Manager – Mona Skordi and Nurse Raephella went to see Earl Mountbatten Hospice! I only had a short trip and was able to see their charity shop in Cowes!

We have received our first dollar donation from the USA – which is fantastic this is a relative of one of our UK donors! Fantastic!

Fund raising continues, and although no events have taken place during July, fund raising continues from the UK via John Kearns, and I am happy to report that John’s Sponsor a Nurse campaign is doing well! I was also able to bank Sterling cash raised from the recent visit of Mona, and a team of two to the Cypriot Wine festival at Alexandra Palace, where Mona was on London Greek Radio and various other media interest was broadcast in Greek! The number of visitors this year to Alexandra Palace Greek Cypriot event was less but the donations collected from this event, was more and exceeded last years. Mona received a donation of £500 from an anonymous donor and I was able to bank £518.15 collected from the event on my trip to UK. All the expenses for the team of three raising awareness at this really large Cypriot cultural extravaganza were born by one our generous British Cypriot Supporters! Without such support we are unable to do such events – so we are truly grateful for this generous support!

Funeral collections now co-ordinated by Nigel Payne continue to yield good donations, and we are truly grateful that so many wish to donate money to St Michael’s Hospice Charity supporting Archangel Michael Hospice. Other members of the Trustees assist Nigel, and we are always grateful for support from volunteers and members of the charity for their assistance.

Please see the Events Page for a forthcoming event on 10 August! We are delighted that Arizona have agreed to play at this event for the charity and Helen and Derek for organising this event!

The shops in Kato Paphos, Pano Paphos, Geroskipou, Peiya, and Polemi continue to work hard and contribute greatly to the charities funds.

At the time of writing I can confirm that each month the Charity has given in excess of 7000 euros each and every month of this year to the hospice. We aim to raise over this amount each month and taking into account shops rents and any expenditure that is absolutely necessary, St Michael’s Hospice Charity continues to go forward helping Archangel Michael Hospice with its running costs, and ultimately giving care to patients with terminal, life limiting illness, and to give respite too!

We are also delighted that the organisers of the Harbour band concert were able to donate 1750 euros this is a wonderful contribution to the charity! Our many thanks to William Mills who organised this for us!

Tomorrow Zingers’ will be presenting a cheque to Mona Skordi, the Hospice Manager from their events so far this year. For those of you unaware, Zingers are supporting both Cancer Patient’s Support Group and Archangel Michael Hospice this year!

Please see our write ups in Paphos Post, Cyprus Weekly, Cyprus Mail, PALS and more! Our PR officer Nikki Dake is doing a grand job of raising our profile in the public arena!

With every good wish

Michele – Secretary – St Michael’s Hospice Charity 3270
